Update: We came, we gave, we’ll give some more
September 2, 2022 was Automox’s latest Giving Day and we’re so proud of our team members for showing up and giving back.
Here are just a few of the ways in which Automoxers volunteered to serve their communities.
On giving Friday, Senior Web Developer Erica Harrison donated blood at the local children’s hospital. Since she has tiny veins, Erica started hydrating super early.
People Partner Ashlyn McKesson donated blood to her local Vitalant chapter, too. If you want to try donating blood, think about offering platelets, too. Platelets tend to be used for kids with leukemia and they’re always in need of more donors.
Also, Senior Instructional Designer Amelia Vacante had a great Giving Friday at the Capital Area Food Bank in DC! She boasted about the wonderful facility, the attentive staff, and how well-organized everything was.
Our own volunteer firefighter and Senior Systems Engineer Ted Harapat is in the early stages of establishing a long range wireless network for security cameras to keep the animals at the Colorado Wolf Sanctuary safe and well-cared for.
Environmentalist and Enterprise Business Development Representative Rachel Wright walked over five miles of beach in Virginia Beach and picked up garbage everywhere! There were more bags than she could count. Thanks Rachel for keeping our beaches clean.
Technical Writer and Editor Jon Levenson worked with the rangers at Piedras Blancas Light Station. The recognized state park works toward historical preservation and environmental conservation and Jon will write new educational content for their museum-type exhibits.
Join Automox and give
Look to hear from Automoxers across the globe as we prep for the next quarterly Giving Day in November, 2022. Until then, keep calm and give on.
Giving is an essential tie that binds us here at Automox. We’re always looking for ways to support our communities, locally and at large. That’s why we started the Automox Giving Committee in 2019. Since its founding, each year we’ve seen more donations, more volunteer engagement, and overall more GIVING. Wahoo!
I’m Carly Otte, and as manager of our Customer Success Team, I’m passionate about engaging with our customers and troubleshooting problems together. Engaging with others in our community and helping assist in their challenges fulfills that passion outside of work as well.
As a part of the Giving Committee, you’ll often find me rallying other Automoxers to get away from their desks and start giving back! Not only is it a nice break from #Momlife, but it forces me to step away from my desk to spend time with coworkers and friends that I might not otherwise see.
Here at Automox, we’re given opportunities to get together and get out in our communities regularly. #GivingFriday takes place once a quarter. We’re all invited to take a step away from work and seek out volunteer opportunities in our communities or nationwide to lend a helping hand. It’s a really good thing and we’re not slowing down anytime soon.
In September, give back to education
While many of us have been busy making the most of summer – hiking, biking, and putting our feet up in our free time – it’s time to return to our communities and give back to those who need a hand.
Our next #GivingFriday will take place on September 2, 2022. This time, we’ll focus on education and back to school support. We’ve all had that one teacher that went above and beyond, right?
I still remember Miss Flynn, my third grade teacher. One day, I overheard her telling another teacher that she waited tables at a diner in a neighboring town. Miss Flynn said she needed the extra work to make sure she had our “treasure chest” full for the school year. It only made sense to me years later that she went above and beyond to make sure her students had all the supplies we needed to learn and stay motivated and inspired.
Sharing this and similar stories with coworkers, it became clear we needed to offer real support to those dedicated to education. Many in the education field don’t have the resources they need and can really use a hand. Not only that, but education can take various forms, so this theme allows everyone to engage.
Want to volunteer with us? Here are some of the ideas we’ve come up with for September, so far.
