Today, we wanted to shed some light on a significant historical event that holds immense importance for many Americans and encourage you to join in the celebration of Juneteenth.
What is Juneteenth Day?
Juneteenth marks a historic day for America. On June 19, 1865, General Granger declared that the Civil War had ended and all enslaved individuals in the US were free. This was two years after Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation; it symbolized an important step toward full liberty and justice.
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is a time to reflect on the resilience, strength, and determination of those who fought for their freedom against incredible odds. It's a day to honor and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of African Americans, their contributions to society, and their ongoing pursuit of social justice.
Wondering how you can join in on the Juneteenth celebration?
Take time to learn, understand, and reflect. Embrace the history; explore black culture; read books & watch films. Show support in your community – donate, volunteer, and create change. Celebrate freedom for all!
Finally, we want to encourage you to fully immerse yourself in the celebration and observance of this important holiday. Disconnect from the daily grind, recharge, and embrace the opportunity to grow as individuals and as a community.
We believe recognizing and celebrating Juneteenth is essential to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace. By acknowledging the significance of this day, we can deepen our understanding and create a culture of respect and empathy for all.
What does Juneteenth mean to you?
To me, Juneteenth is about Black excellence. I grew up mainly looking up to Black civil rights activists and athletes because it was inspiring to see them overcome their obstacles. I like to keep their same mentality in and out of work.
Juneteenth means life. It means a second chance for all the generations that came after slavery ended. It’s a constant reminder to honor the sacrifices my ancestors gave and to always give back to my community.
Juneteenth serves as a chance to inspire, educate, and learn more about my culture so I can pass down my knowledge to future generations.
