Automox Worklet Overview: Place Shortcut on Current User's Desktop

This worklet was authored and submitted by an Automox customer to the Automox Community Worklets forum. Automox reviews and confirms all community worklet submissions before they are published to the Community Worklets forum.

The purpose of this worklet is to deploy shortcut icons on a currently logged in Windows user’s desktop. You can assign this Worklet to any number of your Windows groups and execute the policy. You can also set the Worklet to run on a schedule like any other Worklet.

To create this Worklet, use the remediation code block scripts located here in the original posting on the Automox community.

  • For the evaluation code, use Exit 1 to make the remediation code run every time. Or, you could check for the presence of the shortcut first.
  • The remediation code can be used to address three use cases: add a shortcut to a website for a current user, add a shortcut to an application for the current user, and add a shortcut to a website for all users.

Tips for Creating an Automox Worklet

Before deploying an Automox Worklet to the production environment, we suggest testing this on a few devices to confirm its accuracy. If you have any questions, please contact our support team for technical assistance at support@automox.com.

For step-by-step instructions on creating the Worklet, see our user documentation: Create a Worklet.
